In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end. (Psalm 102:25-27 NIV)
The world is constantly changing.
And the constant change affects us all, whether we realize it or not.
And if we’re not careful and intentional, we can get swept up in the instability of our culture. We can be sucked into the vortex of change and find ourselves meandering through life, with no real compass or guide.
In times where truth can be redefined, relative to preference or agenda. In a day where trends come and go rapidly. Now, as ever before, the Christian worldview provides support and stability.
The Christian worldview offers a sure foundation and hope for the future.
When it seems that everything is susceptible to change, the hope of Christianity is found in the God who remains unchanged.
And it’s His character as Creator and Sustainer that we deeply need to be formed in us, especially as we live within an ever changing world.
The Things That Keep Changing
There’s no shortage of things that are constantly changing in our world. A few of the most prevalent are:
Moral Standards
What was considered right or wrong a decade ago, or even last year, is up for debate today.
Ethics, sexuality, and justice are being redefined at a rapid pace, leading many to question where they should anchor their sense of morality.
Definitions of Success
The cultural narrative around success seems to change with every new social trend.
Is it career achievement? Financial stability?
Or maybe it’s all about self-fulfillment. What it means to “make it” is as shifting as the trends we follow.
Personal Identity
We live in a time where identity is increasingly seen as something to be reinvented, shaped by the culture’s ever-changing views on gender, sexuality, and how we express ourselves.
The question of “Who am I?” is more complicated than ever.
Technology and Communication
In a world driven by the latest apps, devices, and platforms, how we connect with others is constantly being reshaped.
The way we communicate, build relationships, and even view ourselves is profoundly influenced by the relentless evolution of technology.
Cultural Norms and Social Expectations
What’s “normal” today could be outdated tomorrow.
Everything from family structures to political engagement to the language we use is constantly evolving, driven by shifting social expectations and rapidly changing cultural norms.
The Stability of the Christian Worldview
The Christian worldview provides a solid foundation in times of uncertainty through several key principles that offer peace and direction when the world seems unstable:
Unchanging Moral Foundation
In a world where moral lines seem to blur and shift daily, the Christian faith offers something deeply grounding.
Rooted in the very nature of God, Scripture gives us a moral compass that doesn’t waver. While the culture around us may change its views on right and wrong, we hold fast to timeless truths.
God’s Word cuts through the noise, offering clarity in an age of confusion.
Hope in God’s Sovereignty
Life can feel chaotic, but the good news is: God is sovereign.
He’s in control.
As followers of Jesus, we don’t live in fear of what tomorrow holds because we know who holds tomorrow.
Our hope rests not in circumstances but in God’s overarching story of redemption. His will is always at work, and even in the darkest seasons, we can trust that He’s writing a good ending.
Identity and Purpose in Christ
In a culture obsessed with identity—what you do, what you achieve, how you look—our identity as followers of Jesus is different.
We are grounded, not in the fleeting or external, but in the unshakable reality that we are loved by God and called to something greater. Our purpose isn’t defined by success or status but by serving Him and living as citizens of His kingdom.
In a world that constantly shifts, we have an anchor.
Community and Support through the Church
When life gets hard, isolation is tempting, but the Church is God’s answer to that loneliness.
In community, we find strength.
The beauty of the Christian faith is that we’re not meant to walk this journey alone. We have a family that shows up, bears burdens, speaks truth, and reminds us that we belong.
In a fractured world, the Church is where we find wholeness.
Eternal Perspective
The Christian worldview doesn’t deny suffering—it acknowledges that life is hard, but it also offers something more.
This world is not the end of the story.
We live with eternity in mind, knowing that our present struggles are temporary and that God’s ultimate plan is restoration. This gives us hope in the now and anticipation for what’s to come.
Guidance through Prayer and the Holy Spirit
We’re not left to figure life out on our own.
Through prayer, we have direct access to the wisdom of God. And through the Holy Spirit, we have a constant guide, a comforter, and a source of discernment. When the path ahead is unclear, we can trust that He’s leading us, bringing peace and clarity in the midst of uncertainty.
The God Who Does Not Change
The Old Testament prophet Malachi wrote:
I the Lord do not change. (Malachi 3:6 NIV)
Our God remains unchanged.
Regardless of the culture or the chaos.
Regardless of the redefinitions or the rebellion.
His nature and character are steadfast and sure. His love is still strong. His grace still abounds. His mercy still extends to a thousand generations.
And the Christian worldview is rooted in these realities.
Followers of Jesus can look out at the change and instability with grace, peace, and hope.
Grace to extend to a broken world.
Peace to bring to an anxious world.
Hope to give to a dying world.
Jesus was clear in Matthew 7 that the person who built their house on the rock of God’s word and God’s ways would withstand the storms that raged. As followers of Jesus, we can have confidence in His unchanging nature. We can be sure that His word is true and His ways are good.
No matter what may change, our God remains unchanged.
What God is, He always was.
And that is the foundation that we build our lives upon.
